Preparation work to de-plant the Turbine Hall began way back in the spring of 2003 with the removal of all insulation material (asbestos and MMMF - Man Made Mineral Fibres) by contract company, Kitsons.

Hinkley gets filling holes

Between now and the end of 2006, Hinkley Point A has some very big holes to fill. These holes are deep underground chambers that formed the Circulating Water (CW) inlet tunnels, the suction docks and pump house.
Church clock winders given a rest by Hinkley Point A

The clock winders at St Audries Parochial Church are enjoying putting their feet up following a British Nuclear Group donation. The Hinkley Point A decommissioning site made a donation towards the purchase of an automated winding system. For nearly 150 years volunteers have been climbing a steep, narrow staircase twice a week to wind the clock by hand.

Hinkley gets into the recycling spirit

Hinkley Point A is getting into the recycling spirit by transferring a surplus purge air compressor complete with all its control equipment to Dungeness A.

The last of more than 71,000 fuel elements has been removed from the two reactors at Hinkley Point A power station and transported to Sellafield in Cumbria for reprocessing four months ahead of schedule.
