Working with stakeholders

When interacting with the public, our regulators and our staff we will continue to be honest and open and do so in a proactive way to retain stakeholder and public support.

Our Approach

We take a planned, structured approach to stakeholder engagement to generate confidence and preserve good relationships and improve stakeholder trust. Our key stakeholders are:

Political Figures/Local Authorities
Individual elected stakeholders who represent key decision-makers nationally and locally, including those with influence on planning and environmental issues.

Regulators
Have an interest in our strategy and plans and how we engage on these subjects with our local stakeholders: Nuclear Installations Inspectorate (NII), Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA), Office of Civil Nuclear Security (OCNS), Food Standards Agency (FSA), Scottish Heritage, EURATOM and International Atomic Energy Agency.

Community Groups
Including the Site Stakeholder Group (SSG) – stakeholders who represent a broad range of local members across a number of disciplines. A direct dialogue ensures our messages are likely to reach far more people in the locality quickly.

Local Businesses
Key influential members of the local community. Using existing networks the site team can help to facilitate discussion on understanding of business objectives particularly in the local supply chain.

Emergency Services & Health Professionals
Specialists who may be involved in safety exercises who are systematically briefed and individuals who may attend the site on an ad hoc basis.

Pressure/Green Groups/NGOs
We have built a good relationship with members of local groups. We will continue dialogue via the SSG and face to face contact.

Trade Unions
We continue to involve and build good working relationships with the local and national members.

General Public
Interested members of the public that represent a broad range of local stakeholders who may not be associated with any specific local groups. Members of the public are also invited to participate/observe the SSG meetings.

Media
We will ensure consistent messages are delivered to all news outlets and information managed to promote accurate and balanced coverage. Media are invited along to observe and report on the SSG meetings.

Workforce
Ensure workforce (core, agency and contracting staff) have the same information as external stakeholders and ensure key messages are delivered first hand and not through a third party or media coverage.
